Odisha has seen a slight easing of the intense cold wave over the past 24 hours, with night temperatures rising across the state, bringing temporary relief to residents.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, this milder trend is likely to continue for the next 24 hours. However, the chill is expected to return from the night of January 12, with temperatures likely to drop again.
Dr. Sanjeev Dwivedi, scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, said that night temperatures are projected to fall by 2–3°C over the next three days. “The state will experience similar weather for another day, but the downward trend will begin from January 12 night,” he added.
In the last 24 hours, eight cities recorded night temperatures below 10°C. Daringbadi remained the coldest spot with a minimum of 6.5°C. Other notably cold locations included Phulbani, Rourkela, Nabarangpur, Jharsuguda, G. Udaygiri, Kirei, and Angul.
Paralakhemundi recorded the state’s highest temperature at 28.6°C. In the twin cities, Bhubaneswar registered a night temperature of 15.7°C while Cuttack recorded 14.4°C.
Coastal areas, particularly Balasore, Bhadrak, Gopalpur, Puri, Paradip, Chandbali, and Baripada, saw a noticeable increase in night temperatures.
Dense fog was observed in Phulbani and Bhavanipatna on Sunday morning. The IMD has forecast mainly dry weather for the coming week with no rainfall warnings issued. Cold conditions accompanied by fog are likely to persist in around six districts.
