Mumbai: As Team India, the T20 World Cup champions led by Rohit Sharma, arrived at Mumbai airport on Thursday and set off for a victory parade from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium, an enormous crowd of enthusiastic fans and Mumbai residents swarmed the streets, filling every inch of Marine Drive.
For Team India’s victory parade in Mumbai, Marine Drive has transformed into a sea of blue with fans crowding the area to catch a glimpse of the world champions’ celebration. Despite the rain, fans are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and their teammates.
The victory parade, orchestrated by the BCCI, celebrates Team India’s triumph in the ICC T20I World Cup 2024. Social media is awash with videos and photos of the vast crowds along Marine Drive, reflecting the collective excitement of the nation’s financial hub.
A vast sea of people has blanketed Marine Drive, with fans cheering and waiting for Team India’s procession. The crowd has brought all traffic, including public transport, to a halt.
The assembly of spectators at Marine Drive continues to grow as they await Team India’s arrival.
Following the influx of fans to Marine Drive for Team India’s celebration, the Mumbai police have advised the public to steer clear of the area.
“Due to the heavy rush of fans around Wankhede Stadium for the Victory Parade of the Indian Cricket Team, citizens are requested to avoid commuting towards Marine Drive,” stated the Mumbai police on X.
As the Indian team’s bus proceeds to the NPCA for the open-top bus parade, Hardik Pandya tweeted on X, “See you soon, Wankhede.”

Led by captain Rohit Sharma, Team India landed at Mumbai airport early Thursday morning, receiving a water salute upon arrival.

2007 Victory Parade
Following their T20 World Cup victory on September 24, 2007, M S Dhoni and Team India received a hero’s welcome upon their return to Mumbai. They paraded from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to the Wankhede Stadium in an open-deck bus, greeted by a massive assembly of fans along Marine Drive.
2011 Victory Parade
On April 2, 2011, jubilations erupted and fireworks lit up Marine Drive as the Indian team, once more captained by M S Dhoni, clinched the ICC Cricket World Cup finals against Sri Lanka. The streets were filled with people and celebrities mingled with the public in the festivities. The following day, President Pratibha Patil hosted the triumphant team at the Raj Bhavan lawns in Mumbai.
