Suspect Arrested in Rs 50 Lakh Burglary at Former Odisha Minister’s Residence

Bhubaneswar: In a major breakthrough, the Commissionerate Police’s special squad has arrested the prime suspect involved in the high-profile burglary at the residence of former Odisha Minister Niranjan Patnaik. The accused, who is believed to have come from outside the state, was apprehended after an intensive 19-day investigation by Bhubaneswar police.

Burglary Details & Investigation
The theft took place on January 25, the eve of Republic Day, at Patnaik’s residence in IRC Village, Nayapalli, Bhubaneswar. According to the police complaint, Rs 2.5 lakh in cash and gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 50 lakh were stolen.

During the investigation, authorities successfully recovered the stolen jewellery from the suspect. Further inquiries have also linked the accused to another high-profile burglary, prompting an expanded probe into similar thefts in the area.

Security Concerns & Further Action
While the arrest has provided some relief to the Patnaik family and local residents, it has also raised concerns over urban security in Bhubaneswar. Authorities are now reviewing security infrastructure in upscale areas and implementing advanced surveillance measures to prevent similar crimes.

Police continue to investigate the suspect’s network, aiming to dismantle any larger criminal operation. As the case unfolds, law enforcement urges the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity, reinforcing community security across the city.
