A five-member team from the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Puri, has reached Bargarh to survey and select timber for constructing the grand chariots of the Holy Trinity for the upcoming Rath Yatra.
Sources revealed that the team will inspect the Padampur forest to assess the availability of quality timber required for crafting the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Bargarh will accompany the team during the survey.
The Puri temple administration had earlier sent an official communication to the Bargarh DFO regarding the wood selection process. Once finalized, the chosen timber will be transported to Puri, where the temple’s Maharana servitors will begin the traditional construction of the chariots.
Earlier in February, the sacred ritual of ‘Ratha Katha Anukula’ was performed at the Puri Srimandir, marking the ceremonial commencement of chariot-making with the worship of Dhaura Katha (strong timber).
Additionally, 101 pieces of Ashan and Dhaura wood were earlier transported from the forests of Nayagarh and Dasapalla to Puri for the same purpose.
The grand Rath Yatra is scheduled for June 27, 2025, and preparations are underway to ensure the successful execution of this historic festival.
