Sumit Nagal, India’s top singles player, triumphed over Elias Ymer in the first round of the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden, despite losing their previous two matches.
Nagal won 6-4, 6-3 against the Swedish wild card entrant. He will next face Argentina’s world number 36, Mariano Navone. Nagal is also set to represent India at the Paris Olympics.

Nagal experienced a major high before the Paris Olympics 2024, as the star athlete jumped five spots higher in the latest ATP Rankings to become World No. 68.
He moves past Sashi Menon (Career Best WR 71) to be 4th in India’s All-time Career Best World Singles rankings: (Vijay Amritraj: 18, Ramesh Krishnan: 23, Somdev Devvarman: 62, Sumit Nagal: 68)
In other news, Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji are preparing for their debut ATP Tour tournament as a pair. They will compete against the German duo of Mark Wallner and Jakob Schneider in the first round of the Hamburg Open, an ATP 500 event.
