A tragic road accident occurred near Gangapada in Khurda district, claiming the life of a woman and leaving her son critically injured.
The incident took place on National Highway-16 under Infovalley police limits. According to reports, the woman was travelling with her son on a scooter when she suddenly fell off. At that moment, a speeding truck ran over her, killing her instantly.
Her son, who was riding the scooter, sustained serious injuries. Locals rushed him to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for treatment. Doctors confirmed his condition remains critical.
Police reached the accident site soon after receiving information. Officers seized the damaged scooter and sent the woman’s body for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Authorities suspect overspeeding as a major factor behind the mishap. The accident has once again raised questions about road safety on NH-16, where such incidents occur frequently. Police urged drivers to remain cautious and follow traffic rules to prevent further tragedies.
