Netflix India has struck a chord with audiences by enlisting cricketing legend Sourav Ganguly in a unique and humorous role to promote its latest original series, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter.
The promotional campaign, a blend of nostalgia and entertainment, has captured the attention of fans across the country.
In a clever ad film created by Netflix’s creative agency, Trailer Park Group, Ganguly surprises viewers by stepping into the shoes of a fearless police officer. The narrative sees the former Indian cricket captain drawing on his fiery cricketing history, including his famed rivalry with Greg Chappell, to deliver an intense and comical audition. His playful reference to cricket shots like the cover drive and pull as tactics for fighting crime has left fans delighted.
Trailer Park Group executives Ankit Bhatia and Tamagna Ghosh emphasized the campaign’s success in merging Ganguly’s larger-than-life persona with the series’ marketing strategy. “Blending nostalgia with humour brought an authentic appeal to the campaign,” said Bhatia, Executive Director at White Turtle Studios, a Trailer Park Group company.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter features a star-studded cast, including Jeet Madnani, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Saswata Chatterjee, Ritwik Bhowmik, and Chitrangda Singh. A sequel to the 2022 hit Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, the crime thriller promises intense performances and gripping drama. The series premieres on March 20, 2025, on Netflix.
Netflix’s collaboration with Ganguly exemplifies the power of storytelling in creating cultural moments, setting a benchmark for creative entertainment marketing.
