Jharsuguda: Rengali police have arrested six inter-state thieves and seized two trucks loaded with stolen iron pipes in Jharsuguda on Wednesday.
The arrested six inter-state thieves were identified as Binod Raj Chauhan (46) and Sanjay Gand (20) of Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh, Pratap Singh (25) of Sundergarh’s Sola, Surendra Nayak (47), Kailash Khanda (20) and Amus Munda (37) of Nikitimala in Sambalpur.
Two trucks, three mobile phones, 69 numbers of stolen iron pipes and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash, were seized from them. A case (34/22) has been registered in Rengali police station case number and the accused have been taken to court, the police said.
As per preliminary investigation, the arrested persons were involved in stealing iron pipes worth lakhs used for the mega drinking water project in Jharsuguda and other districts and used to sell in Chhattisgarh.
The gang had stolen pipes from Badimala and Amapalli on 27th February and hid it in a forest near Kankatora. On the basis of reliable inputs, a police team raided the spot and seized two trucks while arresting the accused persons, the police said.
“The main accused in the case, Binod Raj Chauhan, was using a fake registration number in his truck and was selling stolen pipes at a factory in Chhattisgarh, Jharsuguda SP Bikas Chandra Das said.
