The Similipal National Park in Odisha has announced a two-day closure following heavy rainfall and thunderstorm alerts issued for Mayurbhanj district by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Visitors will not be allowed into the wildlife sanctuary on March 22 and 23, as per the directive of the Field Director of Similipal Tiger Reserve-cum-Regional Chief Conservator of Forests.

The precautionary measure has been taken in view of forecasts indicating heavy rain (7-11 cm) accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The restrictions extend to all vehicles entering the national park during this period. Authorities have assured us that further assessments of the situation will be made before making decisions on reopening.

The weather outlook for March 22 predicts adverse conditions in districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Balasore, and Bhadrak. On March 23, similar warnings were issued for Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, and other regions.
