The Shilp Samagam Mela, organised by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, was inaugurated today at Biju Patnaik Playground, Baramunda, Bhubaneswar.
This week-long fair, running from June 26 to July 2, 2025, was opened by Amit Yadav, Secretary of the Department, along with senior officials and distinguished guests.
Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Mela aims to empower artisans from Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, Safai Mitras, and Denotified Tribes (DNTs) by providing them a platform to showcase and sell their products, promoting economic self-reliance.
Featuring over 75 artisans from 14 states, the event highlights diverse handicrafts and handloom goods and supports direct market access for artisans. A key component is the promotion of the “TULIP” (Traditional Artisans’ Upliftment Livelihood Programme) brand, launched by Dr. Virendra Kumar, Hon’ble Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, to enhance the market reach of traditional artisans.
Shri Amit Yadav emphasized that the Shilp Samagam Mela is “not just a marketplace but a celebration of skills, culture, and resilience.”
The Mela also includes cultural performances by regional artists and a culinary zone featuring authentic Indian delicacies. Activities are planned for World Drug Day (June 26, 2025), focusing on drug abuse prevention, and highlighting the Department’s initiatives for marginalized communities.
The Shilp Samagam Mela promises to be a vibrant celebration of India’s traditional artistry and a reaffirmation of the Government’s commitment to social justice and economic empowerment.
