Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has made a sensational revelation in his autobiography “The One: Cricket, My Life and More”, recalling how he once smuggled an Englishwoman into his hotel room during a tour of Australia — a room he was sharing with star batter Rohit Sharma.
Dhawan confessed that he developed deep feelings for a woman named Ellen during the tour and began sneaking her into his room after matches. His actions, however, didn’t go unnoticed by his roommate. He revealed Rohit’s humorous but frustrated reaction:
“Now and then, he would complain in Hindi — ‘Mujhe sone dega?’ (Will you let me sleep?).”
The incident soon became the talk of the team when Dhawan and Ellen were spotted hand-in-hand in the hotel lobby by a senior national selector. Unbothered by the attention, Dhawan said it didn’t feel wrong:
“To me, we were committing no crime.”
The relationship, though short-lived, left a lasting impression on Dhawan and became a memorable anecdote from his cricketing career.
Shikhar Dhawan played 167 ODIs, 68 T20Is, and 34 Tests for India, scoring 6,793 ODI runs at an average of 44.11. He shone particularly in ICC tournaments, notably during the 2013 and 2017 Champions Trophy, and started strong in the 2019 World Cup before being ruled out due to injury.
