The Odisha government has rolled out the Shaktishree initiative across state-run universities and colleges.
The Higher Education Department has mandated the formation of Shaktishree Empowerment Cells in all government and aided institutions by August 25.
These cells will serve as hubs for gender sensitisation, self-defence training, and awareness campaigns. Each cell will be led by a female faculty member, the Shaktishree Sanjojika, supported by a peer leader (Shaktishree Saathi) and female class representatives from each department.
Key activities include:
- Six-day intensive self-defence training
- Weekly yoga and meditation sessions
- IEC campaigns on women’s rights and safety
- Workshops aligned with the thematic Shaktishree calendar
Important deadlines:
- August 14: Selection of Female Class Representatives
- August 20: Selection of Shaktishree Saathi
- August 25: Final establishment of Empowerment Cells
This initiative is a proactive step toward creating safer, more inclusive campuses and fostering leadership among young women.
