The Special Crime Unit (SCU) of Bhubaneswar–Cuttack launched a decisive operation against the illegal firearms trade and seized a carbine rifle, five semi‑automatic pistols, and nine rounds of live ammunition.
In addition, officers recovered two mobile phones and Rs 1,170 in cash during the raid.
Police arrested two accused: Divyanshu Kumar (26), son of Surya Kishore Yadav of Basua, Koila, PS Pashrah, District Khagaria, Bihar, and Chandan Kumar (26), son of Nandalal Yadav of Barakhanditola, PS Mufsil, District Khagaria, Bihar.
The operation unfolded between midnight of November 14 and the early hours of November 15 near Malisahi, Unit‑III, under the Kharvel Nagar police station in Bhubaneswar. Acting on precise intelligence, SCU officers initiated surveillance and targeted a firearms network that had been supplying weapons across Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, and other parts of Odisha.
Furthermore, investigators, with the assistance of a reliable source, engaged the suspects in a controlled negotiation for the procurement of firearms. The accused agreed to deliver the weapons in Bhubaneswar in exchange for payment and admitted to earlier supplies for profit.
Consequently, SCU teams swiftly intercepted the suspects near Mali Sahi and executed the tactical operation without resistance. Authorities confirmed that both accused remain in custody and undergo interrogation to trace their supply chain, financial backers, and wider criminal network.
