Puri: The administration of Puri district has announced a holiday for all schools due to the forecast of heavy rainfall on Thursday.
The District Collector of Puri stated that schools will be closed for the day following the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) warning of moderate to heavy rainfall, attributed to the monsoon’s retreat.
In addition, the weather department has released an orange alert for Puri district, predicting moderate thunderstorms with gusty winds ranging from 30-40 km/h. According to the IMD bulletin, lightning and heavy rain are expected to strike Puri and neighbouring districts within the next three hours.
The anticipated effects include minor damage to unsecured structures, waterlogging in low-lying regions, and harm to banana plantations. There is also a risk of damage to standing crops.
Residents have been urged to monitor the weather for any deterioration and to be prepared to relocate to safer areas as necessary.
Furthermore, a yellow alert has been issued, indicating that moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in parts of the districts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, and Deogarh within the next three hours.
