New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the regular bail to former Delhi Minister Satyendra Jain in a money laundering case.
Dismissing the plea, filed by Aam Aadmi Party, the apex court further orders Jain to immediately surrender before the jail authority.
“All appeals (including the plea filed by Ankush Jain and Vaibhav Jain, the other co-accused in the case) are dismissed. Mr Satyendra Jain will have to surrender forthwith,” it ordered.
The Bench also declined the request made by Jain’s counsel seeking a week to surrender.
Satyendra Jain is now on interim medical bail. Initially, the apex court had granted Jain interim relief for six weeks in May last year, which was subsequently extended on several occasions.
In April 2023, Jain’s bail application was rejected by the Delhi High Court, citing the potential risk of tampering with evidence as he is a person of influence. Following this, the AAP leader appealed to the Supreme Court for bail, challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision to dismiss his regular bail plea.
Jain, a former cabinet minister in the Arvind Kejriwal government got arrested by ED on May 30, 2022. He was allegedly charged with money laundering through four companies linked to him. The arrest was based on an FIR lodged by CBI against him in 2017, under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
