Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Akrura Majhi, Former Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Saramuli Gram Panchayat under Daringbadi Block in Kandhamal district.
He stands accused of misappropriating Rs 53,38,809 from government allocations under the 15th Central Finance Commission (CFC) and 5th State Finance Commission (SFC) grants.
The investigation revealed that during his tenure—from October 31, 2023, to November 18, 2024—Majhi reflected fabricated development works in the Panchayat Cash Book and falsely claimed full payments had been made. No actual execution of the listed projects took place, resulting in a substantial financial loss to the government.
Acting on these findings, Odisha Vigilance registered Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No. 8 dated 18.06.2025 under Section 13(2) read with 13(1) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and Section 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
The accused has been taken into custody and produced before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Phulbani. Further investigation is in progress.
