Police arrested a man accused of raping a mentally challenged minor girl in the Kuchinda area of Sambalpur district and produced him before the court.
The accused has been identified as Babulal Dudum of Balipata village under Boxma panchayat in Kuchinda block.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred last Thursday when the minor girl went to Babulal’s house. Finding her alone, Babulal allegedly dragged her inside and raped her. He also threatened to kill her if she revealed the matter to anyone.
The girl later returned home and narrated the incident to her family. Her relatives immediately lodged a complaint at the Kuchinda police station. Acting on the complaint, police registered case number 505/25 and arrested Babulal on Saturday.
After conducting a medical examination, the police produced him before the Sambalpur POCSO Court. The court rejected his bail plea and remanded him to judicial custody.
Kuchinda police confirmed the arrest and legal action in a statement issued Sunday evening at 7 pm.
