The sacred wheels of the three chariots used during the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra will soon be housed in the Parliament complex in New Delhi.
The proposal was formally presented by Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee during Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s visit to the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri. Padhee suggested that the divine wheels be installed as a permanent symbol of Odisha’s cultural and spiritual contribution to India’s heritage.
Sources indicate that Speaker Birla welcomed the idea with enthusiasm. The proposal had earlier been discussed with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
While the dismantling of Taladhwaja (Lord Balabhadra’s chariot) and Darpadalana (Devi Subhadra’s chariot) is complete, the process for Nandighosa (Lord Jagannath’s chariot) is currently underway. Once dismantled, the wheels will be stored and later transported to Delhi for installation.
This initiative is expected to elevate Odisha’s visibility on the national stage and serve as a proud emblem of the state’s timeless devotion and craftsmanship.
