Naresh Kumar Das, Assistant Engineer of the Rural Works (Public Health) Division in Bhubaneswar, was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance yesterday for accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 Lakh.
The bribe was demanded to clear a contractor’s pending bills.
Following the arrest, a total of Rs. 3.56 Lakhs in cash was recovered during further investigations. This included Rs. 1.26 Lakhs found on his person and Rs. 1.30 Lakhs retrieved from his rented residence in Bhubaneswar.
A case, Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station Case No. 5/2025, has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Das is set to be presented before the court today as vigilance officials continue their inquiry into his financial dealings.
