Excise officials in Cuttack seized heroin worth Rs 31 lakh and arrested two suspects during a high-stakes operation on October 27, 2025.
The crackdown reflects the department’s growing vigilance against drug trafficking in Odisha.
Basudev Das (23) and Saroj Kumar Rout (24), both residents of Champapur under Byree police station in Jajpur district, attempted to transport heroin through Tangi Square and Manguli Square under Tangi police station. However, the excise team intercepted them before they could proceed further.
Excise Inspector Abani Kumar Mohapatra led the operation, coordinating with Excise SIs Dibyajyoti Satyaprakash and Bibhuti Bhusan Pradhan, ASI Kishore Chandra Rout, and constables Manas Ranjan Behera, Deepak Kumar Sahoo, Biswanath Bhoi, and Ranjan Kumar Patra. Together, they acted swiftly on intelligence inputs and executed the raid with precision.
As a result, the team disrupted a major drug trafficking route and prevented the distribution of heroin in the region. They sent the seized contraband for forensic analysis and launched a deeper investigation to trace the supply chain.
Moreover, the arrests have sent a strong message to drug traffickers operating in Odisha. The Excise Department reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting public health. Authorities are now working to identify other individuals connected to the network.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies across the state continue to intensify surveillance and crack down on narcotics operations. This heroin seizure stands as a major success in the fight against illegal drug activity.
