The Odisha government is set to introduce a supplementary budget exceeding ₹10,000 crore for the 2025-26 financial year. This proposal received approval during a Council of Ministers meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday, according to reliable sources.

The winter session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly, marking its fifth session, is scheduled to commence on November 27, with a historic address by President Droupadu Murmu. On November 28, Chief Minister Majhi, who also holds the Finance portfolio, will present the supplementary budget in the House.

Notably, Chief Minister Majhi had recently conducted a detailed review of departmental expenditures for the 2025-26 budget. This included an assessment of funds spent by each department, balances held in various banks, and the status of centrally sponsored schemes (CSS). The review covered funds received from the Centre, expenditures to date, and projections for additional inflows by March. The supplementary budget has been prepared based on these evaluations.

For context, in the previous financial year 2024-25, the state government had introduced a supplementary budget of ₹12,156 crore. This allocation comprised ₹10,155 crore for government programs, ₹1,685 crore for administrative expenses, and the remainder for other heads.

This additional funding aims to address emerging fiscal needs and support ongoing development initiatives in the state.
