Thieves made off with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh from the residence of army personnel in Mathanuagaon village under Khaira police station in Balasore district, on Saturday.
The army personnel, identified as Rajesh Chandra Shial, is currently stationed in Jammu and Kashmir. His family, who resides in Balasore, were attending a wedding party in the village when the incident occurred. The robbers broke into the house by forcing open the back door lock.
Once inside, the culprits pried open a wardrobe and fled with the valuable ornaments. A relative of Rajesh, Minati Shial, complained to the Khaira police station.
Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Sachindra Mahalik of Khaira Police Station responded promptly, arriving at the scene and launching an investigation. During their escape, the robbers abandoned a knife and an iron axe used in the burglary.
Residents of Mathanuagaon village are now expressing concerns over the rising number of robberies in the area, prompting calls for increased security measures.
