In a decisive move under Operation “Yatri Surakshya,” the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Detective Wing apprehended a six-member criminal gang at the Coaching Complex in Puri, Odisha, on June 29, 2025.
The gang was caught red-handed while conspiring to execute a dacoity on night-running trains operating between the Puri and Khurda Road section, a critical railway corridor.
Acting on credible intelligence, the RPF conducted a swift operation, intercepting the suspects and recovering 23 stolen mobile handsets, ₹24,450 in cash, and other incriminating articles, with the total value of seized property estimated at ₹7,13,450. Preliminary interrogations revealed the gang’s involvement in multiple mobile thefts targeting passengers at railway stations and passenger areas. The accused also confessed to planning a major dacoity on passenger trains, posing a significant threat to railway safety.
The apprehended individuals, along with the recovered stolen goods, were promptly handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Puri. A formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for further investigation and legal action.
Operation “Yatri Surakshya” underscores the RPF’s unwavering commitment to passenger safety and the security of railway operations. This successful crackdown not only neutralized a dangerous criminal plot but also sent a strong message to potential offenders targeting railway passengers. The RPF continues to intensify its vigilance and intelligence-driven operations to ensure a safe travel experience for millions of passengers across India’s vast railway network.
