Cuttack: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma delivered a spectacular century in India’s victory against England at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, but his on-field frustration stole the spotlight. A viral video from the match shows Sharma lashing out at the stadium DJ for playing loud music during play.
The incident occurred during India’s chase when the score was 48/0. As Sharma prepared to take strike, the stadium DJ continued playing music, disrupting the game. Initially composed, the Indian captain eventually lost patience, animatedly signaling for the music to stop and reportedly mouthing expletives while shouting, “Band kar!” (Turn it off!).
Sharma’s irritation wasn’t limited to the DJ. Earlier in the match, a 25-minute floodlight failure caused a frustrating delay when he was batting on 29 runs. He was also seen shaking his head in disappointment over the technical issue.
Additionally, Sharma showed his aggressive leadership by reprimanding his teammates. He scolded KL Rahul and Axar Patel for missing a DRS opportunity against Joe Root, who capitalized on the chance to score 69 runs. Pacer Harshit Rana also faced his wrath for an overthrow that gifted England a boundary.
Despite these heated moments, Sharma turned his frustration into a match-winning performance, scoring 119 off 90 balls—his 32nd ODI century. His dominant knock led India to a four-wicket win, securing an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series.
With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 starting February 19, Rohit’s return to top form is a promising sign for India as they gear up for the high-stakes tournament.
