In a match that swung from early despair to pure ecstasy, Delhi Capitals (DC) overcame a top-order collapse to register a commanding six-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their TATA IPL 2026 campaign opener at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Chasing a modest 142, DC reached 145/4 in just 17.1 overs, with Sameer Rizvi’s explosive unbeaten 70 off 47 balls proving the difference-maker.

Lucknow Super Giants, batting first after losing the toss, were bundled out for 141 in 18.4 overs. DC’s pace attack, led by Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan, exploited the conditions effectively to restrict the hosts. LSG’s innings never gained serious momentum, with multiple batters failing to convert starts into substantial scores.

In reply, DC suffered a shocking top-order meltdown, slumping to 26/4 inside the powerplay. Openers KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka, along with middle-order batters Nitish Rana and Axar Patel (the new captain), fell cheaply, leaving the visitors in deep trouble.

Enter **Sameer Rizvi** and **Tristan Stubbs**. The fifth-wicket pair forged a match-winning 119-run partnership off just 76 balls — the highest for that wicket in DC’s IPL history. Rizvi, aggressive from the outset, notched up a well-deserved half-century and kept the scoreboard ticking with a blend of elegant drives and powerful pulls. Stubbs provided the perfect foil with his steady 39 off 32 balls, anchoring the innings while rotating strike efficiently.

The turning point came in the death overs when Rizvi shifted gears. With the equation well under control, he finished the game in style, smashing a massive six off Abdul Samad in the 18th over to trigger wild celebrations in the DC dugout. The victory came with 17 balls to spare, underlining DC’s composure under pressure.

**Key Performances**:
– **Sameer Rizvi**: 70* (47 balls, 5 fours, 4 sixes) — Player of the Match contender for his rescue act and match-winning flourish.
– **Tristan Stubbs**: 39 (32 balls) — Crucial support in the record partnership.
– **Lungi Ngidi & T Natarajan**: Impressive spells that dismantled LSG’s batting lineup.

DC captain Axar Patel expressed satisfaction with the fightback, noting the importance of middle-order depth in T20 cricket. For LSG, the defeat will sting, especially after restricting DC early and having home advantage.

This win gives Delhi Capitals a strong start to the season, boosting confidence ahead of their next fixtures. Sameer Rizvi’s stylish finish has already made him a talking point, with fans hailing the young all-rounder’s maturity and power-hitting ability.

**Scorecard Summary**:
– **LSG**: 141 all out in 18.4 overs
– **DC**: 145/4 in 17.1 overs (Rizvi 70*, Stubbs 39*)
– **Result**: Delhi Capitals won by 6 wickets (with 17 balls remaining)

As the IPL 2026 season unfolds, this match serves as a reminder of the format’s unpredictability — where resilience and partnerships can turn the tide in an instant. DC will look to build on this momentum, while LSG will aim to bounce back quickly in their home conditions.
