President Droupadi Murmu on Friday accepted the resignation of Ravneet Singh from the Union Council of Ministers with immediate effect.
Acting on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Rashtrapati Bhavan issued a formal press communiqué confirming that the resignation has been accepted under Clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution of India.
Ravneet Singh, popularly known as Ravneet Singh Bittu, held the portfolios of Minister of State for Railways and Minister of State for Food Processing Industries. The official announcement came through the President’s office late on 24 July 2026.
The development marks the end of Bittu’s tenure in the central government. A senior BJP leader from Punjab and a three-time parliamentarian, he had been serving in the Modi cabinet after being inducted as a Minister of State. No official reason for the resignation has been stated in the communiqué.
Political observers note that Bittu’s Rajya Sabha term had concluded earlier this year and that he had publicly expressed a desire to return to active politics in Punjab ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. The formal acceptance of the resignation clears the way for possible further adjustments in the Union Council of Ministers.
