Ram Janmabhoomi movement leader and former BJP MP Ram Vilas Vedanti died of a heart attack in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, at the age of 67.
He had been undergoing treatment for septicaemia and multi-organ failure at a superspecialty hospital affiliated with Shyam Shah Medical College.
Hospital superintendent Akshay Srivastava said Vedanti was admitted on Sunday morning in critical condition. “He had blood poisoning that had spread significantly. His blood pressure dropped, and his kidneys stopped functioning. He suffered a heart attack on Sunday night, was placed on ventilator support, and passed away this morning,” Srivastava stated.
Doctors attempted to transfer him to AIIMS Bhopal by air ambulance, but poor visibility prevented the move.
Vedanti served as the executive president of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust and was earlier elected to the Lok Sabha from Pratapgarh and Machhali Shahar in Uttar Pradesh. He played a prominent role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and remained active in religious and political circles.
At the time of his death, Vedanti was narrating ‘Katha Bhathwa’ in Lalgaon, Rewa district. Born on October 7, 1958, in Gudhwa village, he dedicated his life to religious service and political leadership.
His disciple Chhote Das Maharaj confirmed that Vedanti’s last rites will be performed in Ayodhya, a city deeply connected to his life’s work.
