Puri’s revered Jagannath Temple will remain closed to devotees for five hours today, starting from 1 PM, as part of the annual Rukmini Haran ritual.
This sacred ceremony commemorates the legendary elopement of Lord Krishna with Goddess Rukmini, marking an important tradition observed on Rukmini Haran Ekadashi.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration issued an official notification regarding the temporary closure, allowing servitors to conduct the ceremonial re-enactment smoothly. The ritual unfolds with Madanmohan, a representation of Lord Jagannath, abducting Rukmini while she prays at Maa Bimala temple. A dramatic battle follows as Sisupala attempts to stop them, only for Lord Jagannath to emerge victorious.
Following the re-enactment, temple priests begin preparations for the divine wedding of Lord Jagannath and Goddess Rukmini, held within the temple premises at the Vivaha Mandap.
Devotees and visitors planning a trip to the temple today are advised to schedule their visit accordingly.
