Tensions have escalated in Puri over ISKCON’s Ad-hoc Rath Yatra, drawing strong opposition from the local servitors.
The servitors of the Jagannath Temple have called for immediate government intervention, asserting that ISKCON is continuously violating traditional religious practices.
The Rath Yatra, scheduled for tomorrow in London, has led to protests in Puri, with servitors arguing that the sanctity of Lord Jagannath’s established traditions must be upheld. They have urged both the Odisha state government and the central government to step in and halt the unauthorised event.
Citing repeated violations, the servitors claim that ISKCON’s actions undermine Jagannath culture and directly harm the sentiments of Odia people. As discussions intensify, a crucial meeting at the State Guest House has taken place, involving the Gajapati Maharaja Shri Dibyasingha Deb, Srimandir’s chief administrator, and ISKCON representatives.
Reports indicate that the placement of the deities on the chariots is inaccurate. Sources claim that the images of the deities are incorrectly positioned on their respective chariots.
The Rath Yatra will occur from Bell Meadow Park to Central Park, from 12 PM to 5 PM. The event advertisement includes free prasad and various cultural programs.
