The Odisha Vigilance apprehended Pravat Kumar Pradhan, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police at Chandanpur Police Station in Puri district, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 15,000.
The incident unfolded when Pradhan, the investigating officer in a land dispute case, demanded a bribe from a complainant to favour him and his brother in the ongoing investigation. The complainant promptly alerted the Vigilance authorities, who orchestrated a sting operation to catch Pradhan in the act.
The operation was executed with precision, and the entire bribe amount of Rs. 15,000 was recovered from Pradhan’s possession and seized. Following the trap, simultaneous searches were launched at two locations linked to the accused ASI to uncover further evidence of corruption.
The Vigilance Directorate has registered a case against Pradhan under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, at Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 12/2025). The investigation is ongoing, with authorities promising a detailed report soon.
