Paris Saint-Germain etched its name into European football history by winning its first-ever UEFA Super Cup, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 in a nail-biting penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Tottenham, under new coach Thomas Frank, appeared poised for glory with goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero giving them a 2-0 lead by the 48th minute. However, PSG mounted a dramatic comeback, sparked by substitute Lee Kang-in’s strike in the 85th minute and capped by Gonçalo Ramos’ injury-time header.
The match proceeded to penalties, where PSG overcame an early miss by Vitinha. New goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier made a crucial save, and Nuno Mendes converted the decisive kick to seal the win.
This victory marks a milestone for PSG and French football, as no club from France had previously lifted the Super Cup. It also adds to PSG’s growing trophy haul in 2025, following their Champions League win and runner-up finish in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Luis Enrique’s squad now turns its focus to the Ligue 1 opener against Nantes, while Tottenham prepares for its Premier League debut against Burnley.
