In a new development in the ongoing legal dispute over the estate of Sunjay Kapur, the minor son of Priya Kapur has opposed a plea filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, questioning the authenticity of their late father’s will. The case is currently being heard in the Delhi High Court.
Earlier this month, Karisma Kapoor’s children raised doubts about the validity of Sunjay Kapur’s will, filing a plea challenging its authenticity. Sunjay, the former chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away in June 2025 while playing a polo match in London. His will, which is at the center of the dispute, reportedly benefits his second wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur.
Priya Kapur’s Son Defends the Will
Representing Priya Kapur’s minor son, senior advocate Akhil Sibal argued that the children of Karisma Kapoor were merely engaging in “speculation and guesswork.” He stated that the accusations regarding the will’s presentation were unfounded. Sibal noted, “Their case is that on July 30, the executor of the will read it out hurriedly, slashed a document, and read it selectively. At that point, they admittedly knew three things: the date, the witnesses, and that they were excluded.”
Communication Breakdown and Legal Strategy
Akhil Sibal further clarified that after the meeting on July 30, Samaira Kapur and Kiaan Kapur, Karisma’s children, did not request a copy of the will. He emphasized that despite Priya Kapur’s willingness to share the documents, Karisma Kapoor’s side refused to sign a confidentiality agreement, which led to them being excluded from the will’s details.
Sibal added, “They knew they were excluded, so their legal strategy was always to challenge the will, regardless of its authenticity.”
Karisma Kapoor’s Children Question the Will
The legal battle continues as Karisma Kapoor’s children, along with Sunjay Kapur’s mother and sister, have publicly questioned the will’s authenticity. Priya Kapur has maintained that it is a “healthy tradition” for a husband to leave all his assets to his wife, a statement made in the previous court hearings.
Karisma Kapoor’s children have requested that the court scrutinize the validity of the will, pointing out discrepancies in the process of its reading and execution.
Background of Sunjay Kapur’s Estate Dispute
Sunjay Kapur’s wealth and business empire, including his role as the chairman of Sona Comstar, make this a high-profile case. The late businessman was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, with whom he shares two children, Samaira and Kiaan. In 2017, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev, and the couple had children together.
This family feud has drawn significant attention, particularly due to the involvement of Bollywood personalities and the large estate at stake.
