The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, paid floral tributes to Dr Shanker Dayal Sharma, former President of India, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
The solemn ceremony was held in the hallowed precincts of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Murmu offered her respects before a portrait of Dr Sharma, acknowledging his enduring legacy in Indian public life.
Dr Sharma, who served as the ninth President of India from 1992 to 1997, is remembered for his scholarly contributions, statesmanship, and commitment to democratic values.
Born on August 19, 1918, Dr Sharma held several key positions, including Vice President of India, Governor of multiple states, and Union Minister. His tenure was marked by constitutional integrity and a deep respect for India’s pluralistic ethos.
