President Droupadi Murmu addressed the event ‘Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi’ organised by the Government of NCT Delhi on March 2, 2026.
She emphasised that true empowerment comes when women can make independent decisions, live with dignity, and access equal opportunities and security.
The President highlighted women’s achievements across diverse fields. She noted that women serve as soldiers guarding borders, scientists conducting research, athletes raising the national flag internationally, and leaders excelling in politics, administration, and business. She praised the growing number of girls receiving degrees and medals at convocations, calling it an inspiring sight.
However, she acknowledged persistent challenges such as violence, economic inequality, stereotypes, and health neglect. She stressed that removing these obstacles is essential for achieving women’s empowerment. “An empowered woman can change not only her own life but also the direction of society and future generations,” she said.
President Murmu outlined government initiatives supporting women, including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Mudra Yojana, Lakhpati Didi Yojana, and Matru Vandana Yojana. She explained how these schemes promote education, health, self-reliance, and financial independence. Yet, she reminded that empowerment is not solely the government’s responsibility but also society’s duty to educate, encourage, and support women.
She urged Delhi to set an example of women-led development. As the nation’s capital, she said, Delhi must ensure women are safe, educated, and self-reliant, sending a positive message across India. She concluded by stressing that women need an environment free from fear and pressure to contribute fully to a prosperous Delhi and a developed India.
