Puri: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday emphasized the importance of conducting thorough research in Ayurveda, citing its potential cures for numerous ailments.
During the 75th Foundation Day celebration of Gopabandhu Ayurveda College, Murmu mentioned that by embracing yoga and nature, one can lead a life free from diseases.
“Research has the power to validate the scientific foundation of any practice. Evidence fosters trust among individuals, and trust expands the road to acceptance,” the President remarked, urging Ayurveda students to engage in research.
She acknowledged her familiarity with the healing practices used by tribal communities for certain illnesses, noting that some tribal elders possess knowledge about various diseases and the corresponding medicinal herbs.
“However, this ancestral wisdom is gradually vanishing. It is my hope that some of you (students) will take an interest in investigating the scientific principles behind these treatments. In doing so, you can prevent this methodology from fading away and simultaneously provide benefits to society,” said Murmu, who originates from the Santal tribe in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha.
The President expressed her desire to focus the attention of students and researchers on the palm leaf manuscripts of Odisha, preserved at the State Museum, which contain extensive knowledge of Ayurveda. She noted that many individuals also possess these manuscripts in their homes.
“Beyond literature, these palm-leaf manuscripts detail medical practices. I urge you to research and reveal these concealed treatment methods to the public,” the President stated.
She mentioned the global interest in learning about Yoga and Ayurveda.
“Maintaining a balanced diet is key to good health, and Yoga can prevent illnesses,” she remarked, coining the phrase ‘Be Yoga Yukta to remain Roga Mukta’ (stay engaged with Yoga to remain disease-free).
The President encouraged students to undertake thorough research in Ayurveda, which offers cures for numerous ailments. The event also featured speeches from Odisha’s Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and other dignitaries.
