President Droupadi Murmu attended and addressed the convocation ceremony of AIIMS Nagpur in Maharashtra, emphasising that technology can never replace compassion, integrity, and a patient-centric approach.
She said medicine is not just a profession but a path to serve humanity with sensitivity. Doctors, she noted, heal not only diseases but also instil hope in patients and their families. She urged medical professionals to remain empathetic even in challenging situations and called on citizens to treat doctors with respect to preserve trust between patients and caregivers.
The President highlighted that good health is vital for both national progress and individual well-being. She commended the government’s efforts to expand healthcare access through new AIIMS institutions, which have improved medical education and treatment nationwide.
She praised AIIMS Nagpur for emerging as a leading centre for education, research, and healthcare within a few years of its establishment. She encouraged doctors to embrace technological advancements like Artificial Intelligence and digital health services to bridge healthcare gaps between rural and urban areas.
President Murmu reminded young doctors that their social and moral duty is to prioritise patients’ welfare. She urged them to pursue lifelong learning, innovation, and ethical practice. She concluded by expressing confidence that the graduating students will contribute to building a healthy and developed India.
