The world-renowned Rath Yatra in Puri is set to take place on June 27th this year. Preparations are already underway to ensure a smooth and successful event, with a preparatory meeting held this afternoon at the Circuit House Conference Hall.
District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain presided over the meeting, emphasizing the importance of a united effort in organizing the activities from Debasnan Purnima to Niladri Bije. He directed various departments to prioritize and complete their assigned responsibilities efficiently.
Detailed discussions were conducted on various aspects of the Rath Yatra, including the collection of chariot wood, construction of chariots, cleaning of chariot sheds, collection and supply of items for the Rath Yatra, collection of chariot cloths, policy formulation, health and sanitation system, drinking water supply, electricity supply, transportation system, road repairs, parking lots, maintenance of peace and order, information and broadcasting system, organization of cultural programs, Pallishri Mela and exhibition, and employment of volunteers. The District Collector urged the concerned departments to expedite their work.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinit Agarwal provided insights into the measures taken to maintain law and order during the Rath Yatra and advised collaborative efforts for the success of the event. He also suggested the need for joint investigation to identify and take action on unsafe buildings and review the fire extinguishing system.
Key dates for this year’s Rath Yatra have been announced:
Akshaya Tritiya on April 30, Devasnan Purnima on June 11, Srigundicha on June 27, Sandhya Darshan on July 4, Bahuda on July 5, Sunabesha on July 6, Adharpana on July 7, and Niladri Bije on July 8.
The temple administration further informed that 865 pieces of wood are required for the construction of the chariot, with 51 pieces left over from the previous year. So far, 101 pieces have already been acquired.
Development Administrator Debabrata Sahu assured everyone that other necessary items for the Rath Yatra are also being prepared.
With meticulous planning and collaborative efforts, this year’s Rath Yatra aims to be a grand and successful event.
