The demand to upgrade Balasore to a Municipal Corporation has gathered fresh momentum, with government deputy chief whip Gobinda Das strongly advocating the cause.
According to Das, Balasore possesses the socio-economic and strategic foundation necessary to be declared a municipal corporation.
Highlighting its significance, Gobinda Das noted, “Balasore holds immense potential in terms of population density, industrial growth, and administrative capacity. It is not only a key industrial cluster but also a vital national security location due to the presence of the Integrated Test Range (ITR).”
Das announced his intention to raise the matter directly with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. “We will take this genuine public demand to the appropriate level and ensure it gets due consideration,” he affirmed.
Notably, opposition parties, civic bodies, and citizens’ forums such as ‘Voice of Balasore’ have also championed the cause, indicating cross-party support and increasing pressure on the government.
Balasore is already recognised for its contributions to India’s defence research and its thriving industrial base. As calls for municipal corporation status grow louder, the political and administrative circles are abuzz with speculation about an imminent upgrade.
