A police vehicle collided with a motorcycle in Bolangir district on Saturday night, killing one rider and leaving another critically injured.
The accident occurred near the Bongomunda petrol pump on the Bulani road.
The deceased has been identified as Muna Mahanand of Gandharla village under Sindhekela police station. The injured rider, Ashish Suna of Salemudga village, was rushed to Kantabanji Hospital for treatment.
Reports confirm that the police vehicle belonged to the Kantabanji police station. Transforce chief Panchanan Negi and driver Jayasingh Chhatriya, a home guard, were travelling from Kantabanji towards Bongomunda when the collision took place. The motorcycle approached from the opposite direction, leading to the crash.
Muna died instantly at the scene, while Ashish sustained severe injuries. Authorities admitted him to Kantabanji Hospital for urgent medical care. Following the incident, Bongomunda police detained the Kantabanji police vehicle for investigation.
Police have launched a probe into the accident to determine responsibility and the circumstances.
