Police in Birmaharajpur arrested the prime accused in a case involving misconduct and robbery against a tribal woman in the Harihar Jore (Thenga Dam) area.
Officers identified the accused as Prashant Kamp of Brahmanipali village. However, another accused remains at large.
According to police, Prashant and his associate called the woman on November 6 while intoxicated. Although she refused, Prashant forced her to step outside her home. When she reached the roadside, both men misbehaved with her. As she tried to run back home, the duo chased her, dragged her, and snatched her mobile phone. They also threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident.
Initially, police did not take action for seven days. Consequently, the woman approached the station again yesterday. Meanwhile, local media reported the incident on Saturday, which prompted police to act quickly.
Under the supervision of Birmaharajpur IIC Sarangadhar Panigrahi, officers arrested Prashant and recovered the stolen mobile phone. Today, the police produced him in court. Authorities confirmed that the search continues for the other accused.
Officials emphasised that the arrest demonstrates the importance of timely intervention and accountability. Moreover, they assured that further investigation will ensure justice for the victim.
