India’s largest producer of aluminium has extended its support to the Prime Minister’s ‘Nikshay Mitra’ program, which aims to assist tuberculosis (TB) patients in the Balishankara block of Sundargarh district.
As part of this initiative, designed to promote the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ (TB-Free India Campaign), Vedanta Aluminium, in collaboration with the Sundargarh district administration, provided nutritional kits to 63 TB patients for a year to aid in their recovery. The launch event included the distribution of the nutrition kits in the presence of Dr. Suresh Chandra Mohanty, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Sundargarh, ASHA workers, and other dignitaries.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, commented on the company’s community-focused healthcare initiatives: “Through Nikshay Mitra, we aim to contribute meaningfully to the national mission of a TB-free India. Nutritional support is a critical component of TB recovery. To date, we have supported more than 550 patients in Jharsuguda and Kalahandi, and we are pleased to extend this care to Sundargarh, further strengthening our commitment to community health in remote regions of the country.”
Dr. Suresh Chandra Mohanty, CDMO of Sundargarh, emphasised, “Access to quality healthcare is often a challenge in remote regions. TB patients require sustained nutrition alongside their treatment. Vedanta’s support will enhance treatment outcomes and reinforce the government’s efforts to ensure better care at the grassroots level.”
