Odisha Vigilance arrested Girish Chandra Behera, in-charge Secretary of Durgadevi Co-Operative Society, Balasore in a case involving the misappropriation of government funds under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
The alleged diversion of Rs. 5.8 Lakhs in indemnity claims, earmarked for 38 farmers affected during 2021-2023, was uncovered after investigations.
The funds, intended to compensate farmers for crop damage under PMFBY, were misused by Behera, according to officials. The Balasore Vigilance Police Station has registered Case No. 2/2025 under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and section 409 of the Indian Penal Code.
Behera has been forwarded to the court, while Odisha Vigilance continues its efforts to crack down on corruption and safeguard public resources.
