Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually lay the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art fish market in Pandra, Bhubaneswar, on October 11.

The project, estimated at ₹60 crore, will be developed under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana.

Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das confirmed the announcement and highlighted the market’s scale and significance. Spread over 5.80 acres, the facility will become Odisha’s largest fish market, offering modern infrastructure for wholesale and retail operations.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will oversee construction, which includes six buildings for various functions. The wholesale section will feature 44 G+3 units equipped with weighing, processing, packing, and testing facilities. A dedicated auction area, administrative block, and cold storage units will support streamlined operations.

The retail zone will house 100 kiosks of varying sizes. Additional amenities include a canteen, daycare room, dormitory, and rest areas for workers and drivers. The market will also feature solar-powered systems, battery vehicle charging stations, and real-time price display boards.

Waste management will be a priority, with effluent treatment and hydrolysate plants converting fish waste into organic manure. Officials expect the market to process up to 450 tonnes of fish daily, boosting hygiene standards and economic activity.
