In a gesture underscoring the enduring cultural ties between India and Thailand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister of Thailand, H.E. Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, for her thoughtful gift of the Tipitaka in Pali.

In a post on X, he wrote:

“A very special gesture!

I am grateful to Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra for giving me a copy of the Tipitaka in Pali. Pali is indeed a beautiful language, carrying within it the essence of Lord Buddha’s teachings. As you are all aware, our Government had conferred the status of Classical Language on Pali last year. People from all over the world have appreciated this decision and it has also encouraged research as well as study on this language.

The Tipitaka, a revered scripture in Buddhism, carries profound wisdom and serves as a bridge to the teachings of the Buddha. Modi highlighted that the Indian government had granted Pali the status of Classical Language last year, leading to an increased global interest in its study and research. The Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of this gift reflects India’s commitment to preserving and celebrating shared cultural heritage.

This exchange between leaders reinforces the historical and spiritual bond between India and Thailand, with Lord Buddha’s teachings as a common thread weaving the two nations together.
