Russian President Vladimir Putin, during his official visit to India, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, highlighting his ability to remain firm under pressure and uphold India’s national interests. This visit marks Putin’s first trip to India in four years.
“Prime Minister Modi is not someone who succumbs to pressure easily. The people of India can certainly take pride in their leader,” Putin said, acknowledging Modi’s strong decision-making approach.
Emphasizing the aligned objectives of India and Russia, Putin noted, “Our goal is not to provoke conflict; rather, we aim to protect our lawful rights. India follows the same principle.”
Putin described his relationship with PM Modi as both professional and personal. He commended the Indian Prime Minister for setting “very challenging tasks” and driving the nation’s high-growth path through transformative initiatives such as “Make in India.”
Highlighting India’s growing global influence, Putin stressed that the country can no longer be viewed through the lens of its colonial past. “India is no longer a nation to be treated as it was 77 years ago. It is a major global player, not a British colony. The world must acknowledge this reality,” he said.
Putin arrived in India on December 4, marking a significant moment in India–Russia relations as the two countries continue to expand their strategic partnership.
