Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised two inspiring individuals from Odisha — Om Prakash Rath of Kendrapara and Sujata Bhuyan of Sambalpur — during his Mann Ki Baat address on Sunday.
He highlighted Rath’s contribution to the MY Bharat Budget Quest 2026 initiative, which saw participation from nearly 12 lakh youth across India. Rath’s essay on women-led development stood out among 1.6 lakh shortlisted entries, showcasing thoughtful ideas for inclusive growth.
PM Modi emphasised the role of young minds in shaping national policy and applauded Rath’s commitment to grassroots innovation. Participants from across the country shared insights on farmer welfare, green development, sports, skill-building, and entrepreneurship.
The Prime Minister also celebrated Sujata Bhuyan’s journey from homemaker to successful fish farmer in the Hirakud reservoir. Despite challenges like erratic weather and resource constraints, Sujata built a thriving enterprise. Her story, Modi said, reflects determination and resilience, inspiring other women to pursue economic independence.
He underscored the importance of the fisheries sector in building a self-reliant India and mentioned government support through infrastructure, insurance, and tech-based weather tools.
Both Rath and Bhuyan represent Odisha’s growing influence in national development, with youth and women leading the charge.
