Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kartavya Bhavan today at Kartavya Path, marking a significant milestone in India’s administrative transformation.
The newly constructed Kartavya Bhavan-03 is the first of several Common Central Secretariat buildings envisioned under the Central Vista redevelopment project.
Spanning approximately 1.5 lakh square meters, the state-of-the-art complex will house key ministries including Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, MSME, DoPT, Petroleum & Natural Gas, and the Principal Scientific Adviser. Designed to foster inter-ministerial synergy, the facility aims to streamline governance and accelerate policy execution.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public gathering at Kartavya Path later this evening, highlighting the building’s role in modernising India’s bureaucratic infrastructure.
Kartavya Bhavan integrates cutting-edge technology and sustainability features such as rooftop solar panels, rainwater harvesting, zero-discharge waste management, and energy-efficient systems. With a targeted GRIHA-4 rating, the building exemplifies eco-conscious governance.
Replacing ageing structures like Shastri Bhawan and Krishi Bhawan, the new facility promises improved productivity, reduced maintenance costs, and enhanced employee well-being. It also reflects the government’s commitment to agile, responsive, and environmentally responsible administration.
