Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Bengaluru’s long-awaited Yellow Line Metro, a 19.15-km corridor connecting RV Road to Bommasandra and linking the city’s IT hub, Electronics City, to the wider metro network. The event also marked the launch of the Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat Express.
Touted as a game-changer for southern Bengaluru, the Yellow Line covers 16 stations, including key points such as Silk Board Junction, BTM Layout, and Bommasandra Industrial Area, home to major employers like Infosys, Biocon, and TCS. Authorities expect it to carry 8 lakh commuters daily, significantly reducing traffic at notorious choke points like Silk Board.
Built at a cost of ₹5,056.99 crore, the line will begin regular services from August 11, with three trains running every 25 minutes. The launch date was moved up from August 15 at the Prime Minister’s insistence on early completion.
The inauguration also coincided with the foundation stone laying of Phase 3 of Namma Metro — a 44.65-km expansion worth ₹15,611 crore aimed at benefiting 25 lakh residents and improving last-mile connectivity.
Traffic police had issued detailed advisories to manage the high-profile event, where PM Modi addressed city residents and lauded the project as a boost for both urban mobility and economic growth.
