Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated following reported ceasefire violations.
In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a crucial meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and the Chiefs of the three services.
The meeting comes in the wake of a deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 tourists. India retaliated on May 7 by launching Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Pakistan, in turn, responded with drone strikes on Indian border states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. Although intercepted by Indian defence systems, the attacks raised concerns about a broader conflict between the two nuclear-armed nations.
Indian officials urged Pakistan to act responsibly and uphold the ceasefire agreement. Meanwhile, border residents remain fearful, with tensions showing no immediate signs of resolution.
