New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday extended his support to Vinesh Phogat as she was disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024.
It was anticipated that PM Modi would tweet in celebration of wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s performance at the Paris Olympics on Wednesday, likely to congratulate her on securing a silver or gold medal. However, defying expectations, Vinesh faced disqualification from the 50 kg category when she exceeded the weight limit during the weigh-in.
Instead, the prime minister could only offer his support to the heartbroken wrestler, Vinesh, who had done exceptionally well to be in a position to land a medal in her third Olympics. In a tweet, the PM wrote, “Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India’s pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian. Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing. At the same time, I know that you epitomise resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head-on. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you.”

As of now, there are a lot of ifs and buts regarding Vinesh’s disqualification. While some sources claim she was overweight by 100 gm, others claim it was 72, 150 or even 200 gm. But what is certain is that she would return home empty-handed, without a medal in her third Olympics.
